World Series Final Game Attracts 51 Million Audience Members In the US, Canadian and Japan Regions.

The nail-biting extra-inning matchup that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a combined 51M viewers in the United States, Canada, and Japanese territories. Major League Baseball reported this is the most-watched Fall Classic finale after the 1991 showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s memorable contest averaged 27.33 million audience members on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. Per Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the previous week.

It additionally stands as the top-rated World Series matchup since the 2017 edition final game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This represents a 16% increase compared to the last finale between the Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 placed fourth, Game 4 was 7th, Game 5 was 8th, and Game 3 landed in thirteenth place.

International Audience Figures

In the Canadian market, the game averaged 11.6M watchers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English broadcast in the country after the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final game began at 9 PM local time, it averaged 12 million. This came after the previous Friday’s Game 6 – where Fall Classic MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – averaged 13.1M viewers, making it the most-watched Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Series Averages and Trends

The full seven-game World Series drew 15.71 million audience members on the Fox network, a two percent rise from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This marks the first time after 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has recorded viewership increases for two consecutive years.

Counting the Game 1 telecast on Univision, the total US viewership reached 16.1M. The total World Series viewership in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1 million in Canada.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels recorded over 8 million watchers, an 8% rise compared to last year and Fox’s strongest postseason ratings after the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball reported that the Fall Classic was televised in over 200 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in sixteen various languages.
